2024 Furlani "Altopiano" Muller-Thurgau, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

ABOUT THIS WINE

The "Altopiano" is produced from organically and biodynamically farmed Müller-Thurgau grapes grown at elevations exceeding 700 meters in the Dolomites. The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed using pneumatic methods, followed by a spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks until April and bottled without filtration or fining, with minimal sulfur added only if necessary . This meticulous process yields a wine that is both expressive and true to its alpine terroir. Its vibrant acidity and complex flavor profile make it an excellent companion to dishes such as shellfish, lean fish, spicy cuisine, and a variety of appetizers .

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Cantina Furlani, led by fourth-generation winemaker Matteo Furlani, is situated in the mountainous region above Trento, Italy. Matteo, who studied agronomy, has embraced and expanded upon his family's traditional winemaking practices by incorporating biodynamic methods and a deep respect for nature. The vineyards, characterized by clay soils over schist and granite, are planted on steep slopes and trained using the traditional Pergola Trentina system. In the cellar, Matteo employs minimalist techniques, avoiding chemical additives and allowing the wines to ferment naturally. This approach results in wines that are authentic expressions of their terroir, showcasing the unique qualities of the Trentino-Alto Adige region .
