2022 Bruna Grimaldi Barolo "Camilla", Piedmont, Italy

ABOUT THIS WINE

Camilla is Bruna Grimaldi's Barolo classico and it is produced with grapes from different vineyards whose soils are similar in terms of age and composition. Barolo Camilla is elegant and beautiful. It represents the harmony and the balance of a traditional Barolo and it distinguishes for drinkability and pleasantness every vintage. The aromas are ample and floral with nuances of spices. The palate is gentle with fine tannins balanced with the typical structure, which can be appreciated in youth for those who love the energy of Barolo that reaches its best expression with a few years of bottle age.

Grapes are sourced from vineyards located in different municipalities in the Barolo region, at an altitude between 250 m.a.s.l. and 450 m.a.s.l., at a Southern exposure. The soils here are Marne di Sant’Agata Fossili, which have a high presence of clay a little sand, and medium quantity of limestone. The other soils is Formazione di Lequio, which is rich in limestone with good presence of clay and layers of sandstone (sand cemented with limestone).

In the months before the harvest, clusters are selected carefully and are picked when the phenolic ripeness is at its best. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks and is combined with long skin-contact maceration which last about 20-30 days, sometimes with submerged cap management. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel and concrete tanks. The wine is aged in big Slavonian oak barrels and French oak tonneaux for about 24-30 months. The wine ages in bottle before being released. Formats available: bottle (75cl), magnum (1.5L), jeroboam (3L).

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

The vineyards form the heritage, the beating heart of Bruna Grimaldi Azienda Agricola. Bruna and Franco have always believed in this land and, with hard work and dedication, in the past 20 years have bought plots in different municipalities in the Barolo area, all of them being well suited to the Nebbiolo and Barbera vines.

Their winery owns 15 hectares planted with vines, divided between small and large plots. The fragmentation of the vineyards is one of the strengths of our business because it allows them to offer high quality from the different terroirs that make up the Langhe where microclimates, soils and exposures conveys important and unique characteristics to the wines.

The Grimaldi family has always farmed uniquely indigenous grape varieties: Arneis, a very old native grape to this region and the only white grape of our winery; Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo are the red grapes. These grape varieties are spread over different villages in the Barolo region and the neighboring municipalities.
