ABOUT THE WINE

Les Cents Vignes, “the Hundred Vines,” is a premier cru lying in the northern section of the Beaune amphitheater where the wines tend to be fresher and finer than wines from the southern section. Typically, the well-drained soils of Les Cents Vignes give delicate red berry aromas and a silky texture. Xavier Monnot’s 4.2 acre parcel was planted between 1960 and 1986. Aged from 12 to 14 months in 30-35% percent new French oak. 

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Xavier Monnot comes from a long line of Burgundian winemakers. His mother's family, Monnier, began growing wine grapes at Meursault in 1723. Xavier joined the family business in 1994 after completing his studies in oenology. He quickly set about replanting his vineyards, combining mass selection and new clones. He also modernized the wine cellar to improve the quality of the wines produced. The estate bore the name of Xavier's grandfather - René Monnier - until 2005, when it was renamed Domaine Xavier Monnot .


Today Domaine Xavier Monnot is a 42-acre estate in Meursault with vineyards stretching from Beaune to Marange. 60% of the Domain's production is white and 40% red wines. Xavier practices "lutte raisonnée" ("argued struggle") in the vineyards. The vines are aged between 30 and 40 years. Regular replacement helps to keep young vines alive and productive and old vines to have strength and complexity, thus achieving balance. More: https://winestyleonline.com
