Crafted primarily from Sangiovese with a dash of Merlot, the 2021 Poggio Badiola is sourced from high-altitude vineyards in the Chianti Classico region, particularly from the Mazzei family's estate at Castellina in Chianti. The vineyards, located at around 400 meters above sea level, benefit from cool nights and excellent sun exposure, which foster aromatic intensity and finesse.
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by maturation in small French oak barrels for about 10 months. This approach preserves freshness while adding subtle structure and complexity. The result is a wine with fragrant notes of red currant, raspberry, thyme, and hints of toast and clove.
