2021 Marengo Barolo, Piedmont, Italy

ABOUT THE WINE

Crafted from 100% Nebbiolo, this Barolo is sourced from estate vineyards in La Morra, including the renowned crus of Fossati, Boiolo, Roncaglia, and Serra Denari. These calcareous clay and marl soils, combined with the elevated hillside exposures, produce wines known for aromatic complexity, finesse, and silky tannins.

Following a meticulous hand harvest, the grapes undergo traditional fermentation with extended skin contact to extract Nebbiolo's distinctive structure and perfume. The wine is then aged for 24 months in French oak barriques, followed by additional bottle aging before release. This careful élevage preserves the purity of the fruit while integrating the wine's tannins and adding subtle notes of spice and complexity.

The 2021 vintage displays expressive aromas of red cherry, raspberry, rose petals, violets, and orange peel, accented by notes of anise, tobacco, forest floor, and sweet spice. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with exceptional balance, combining bright acidity, polished tannins, and a persistent mineral finish. While approachable with decanting, the wine possesses the structure to evolve beautifully over the next 15–20 years. It pairs exceptionally well with braised beef, osso buco, wild mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, roasted game, and aged cheeses.
